UN Anti-Torture Convention (1984)

The UN Anti-Torture Convention (Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment) was adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1984. It calls upon countries to take active steps to eliminate torture and prohibits deporting individuals to their home countries if there is reason to believe that they would subsequently be subjected to torture.
