Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (1973)

 

The Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is an agreement as well as an international organization for the purpose of imposing certain controls on international trade to ensure that the survival of wild animal and plant species is not jeopardized. The text of CITES was adopted on March 3, 1973, and was subsequently amended in Bonn on June 22, 1979, and in Gaborone (Botswana) on April 30, 1983.
