FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL (FSC) (1993)

FSC is an international nonprofit organization with national working groups in 43 countries. It was founded in 1993 with the goal of implementing the call for “sustainable development” adopted in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 with respect to the world’s forests. An important conclusion of the Rio Earth Summit was that equal importance should be attached to social, ecological and economic aspects of the use of natural resources. FSC is a public-private partnership (PPP) and has received substantial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development [Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, BMZ].
